Building a Sustainable Legacy: Canyon’s Commitment to a Greener Future

At Canyon, sustainability is engrained in our DNA, thanks to the visionary leadership of our late Chairman, Mr. Tetsuya Tada. Recognising the importance of environmental responsibility, he pioneered sustainable principles long before they became mainstream. In the 1960s, Mr. Tada invented the groundbreaking ‘Trigger Sprayer’—a handheld device designed to atomise liquids. This innovative product was born out of his desire to provide consumers with an eco-friendly alternative to ozone-depleting aerosols.

Today, we carry forward Mr. Tada’s legacy by proactively implementing sustainable behaviours and practices across our entire ecosystem. From our suppliers and distributors to the end-consumer, we strive to inspire positive change and contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.

“But how can you perform sustainably when you produce plastic products?” We hear you ask. Let us show you.

Key Initiatives

Our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility fuels our efforts to optimise operations and minimise our carbon footprint. Below are just a few examples of our sustainability initiatives:

  • In 2023, we introduced the first product in our PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) range, the T-95 PCR , followed by the CHS-3A PCR in 2024. These products are manufactured with at least 30% sustainably sourced recycled material.
  • In 2022, we unveiled Minerva , a groundbreaking product manufactured using a single polyolefin, which significantly enhances its recyclability. By reducing the number of components by 20%, we also successfully reduced the use of plastic materials and lowered energy consumption during manufacturing.
  • We have made significant investments in cutting-edge process and machine technology by transitioning from hydraulic injection to all-electric injection machines, reducing our annual energy consumption by over 30% and eliminating the need to purchase and dispose of hydraulic oil, which is traditionally used in injection pumps.
  • We started leveraging the power of Realtime Operational Intelligence (ROI) to revolutionise our manufacturing processes. Our state-of-the-art systems enable us to monitor and prevent waste, defects, and inefficiencies in real-time, resulting in improved operational performance and minimising environmental impact.
  • We continually implement the principles of the environmental ISO 14001, through rigorous waste flow monitoring, recycling, and responsible disposal procedures.
  • By transitioning all of our factory and office lights to LED technology and investing in advanced variable speed compressors, we achieved a 15% reduction in energy consumption.

Our goals

Doing good. Spreading good.

Our founder and late Chairman Mr Tetsuya Tada was truly a visionary and therefore an early adopter of the principles of sustainability and being more beneficial to society. We continue to set new goals to improve our practices.

75%

Increase the recycled plastic content from 30% to 75% by 2025.

30%

Reduce our carbon footprint by 30%.

40%

40% of energy consumption from renewable resources by 2030.

2030

Introduction of biodegradable materials 2030.

Other initiatives

Let us show you.

  • At all of our manufacturing locations, we have integrated landscapes that promote biodiversity, support native flora and fauna, and enhance habitats for indigenous plants and wildlife.
  • One of our recent innovations, the Poseidon trigger sprayer, was specifically designed and produced to provide enhanced usability for arthritis sufferers. With a 50% reduced actuation force compared to existing sprayers in the market, the Poseidon offers effortless spraying. Moreover, this sprayer can be used up to 50 times and features a convenient handle that alleviates wrist strain, preventing injuries and enabling extended use.
  • We actively collaborate with local schools, industry clusters, and universities to advocate for the benefits of plastics, foster lifelong learning, and emphasise the importance of the circular economy in minimising waste through effective reduction, recycling, and reuse practices.
Green

By reducing our overall energy consumption, we have also decreased our carbon footprint, reinforcing Canyon Europe’s commitment to environmental responsibility in manufacturing.
